Can't link a visio flow chart with an excel data table both stored in our SharePoint online site

I have my visio and excel stored on our sharepoint online site.

I am trying to link the visio stored in the same folder as the visio with the excel for that data table.
It finds the sharepoint site the document then says "the selected file is not an excel or is currently unavailable", which is not correct. I do not want to it to go through my personal one drive connection that is synced to the sharepoint folder, I need it to connect to the location on the sharepoint folder independent of me so that others can work on it. I dont get it. This was supposed to be an easy solution but no one can use it. (I would post pictures, but I can't get them to insert).
