Hello

We are in the transition phase from managing workstations from on-premise infrastructure to cloud-based management tools. Currently our workstations are hybrid joined and when the hardware reaches EOL, the users will get a new hardware that is pure Azure AD joined and managed by Intune.

In this transitioning phase, we are using both on-premise SCCM agent and the Company Portal (Intune) to deploy software. Slowly we are moving apps from SCCM to Intune and this will take some time. Due to the nature of our business, we are not allowed to send communications to users telling them to use the Company Portal to install software rather than SCCM Software Center.

Our question is:

Instead of removing the software from SCCM, can we remove the content, and replace the setup string of that specific app to open the company portal and directly point to that specific app to be installed?

I hope I was clear.

Thanks

I believe I got a reply to my own question! From the company portal, if I click on the three dots near install, I get a SHARE link.

    User's image

Another Windows will open, and I just have to copy the link, then paste the link in the app command line, but this time I have to change the user to interact with the software... I will try and let you know if this works

    Hello,

If you are not allowed to communicate with the user regarding this transition, just keep it simple, manage your new devices fully with Intune and for existing ones with SCCM.

In this case, you will not impact their experience and reduce their productivity.

    Regards,

@Ihab Abedrabbo, Thanks for posting in Q&A. It is possible to replace the setup string of an app in SCCM to open the Company Portal and directly point to that specific app to be installed, but it requires custom scripting and is not a recommended solution.

Microsoft recommends that you communicate the changes to your users and encourage them to start using the Company Portal for software installations, as it is the recommended way of deploying apps on cloud-managed devices. You can provide user training and resources on how to use the Company Portal effectively, such as the steps to install applications from the Company Portal and how to send requests for applications that are not currently available.

Additionally, if you are using co-management with Configuration Manager and Intune, you can configure co-managed devices to also use the Company Portal app, which will provide a consistent user experience for all devices. The Company Portal allows users to view available and installed Configuration Manager apps alongside Intune apps, install available Configuration Manager apps, and receive installation status information.
