Cannot migrate physical server to Azure

Hello,

I am trying to migrate some physical servers into Azure but I am not having any luck during the Mobility service installation.

I have prepared and installed the configuration server, it is registered in the Azure Migration project and based on this document I have to install an agent on each physical machine I want to migrate.

I have installed the agent on a physical machine, but I am having issues finding/generating the Mobility service configuration file and it does not let me move forward without this.

Based on another article I am supposed to generate this from the Management appliance, the one that does the discovery, but I cannot find the option here also.

Bear in mind that everything is in private mode, not public.

Can anyone put a light on this so I can pass this wizard screen and move on?

Not sure which OS you are migrating from the Physical servers but can you check the pre-requisites and verify all the steps are completed before you start the process - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/migrate/tutorial-migrate-physical-virtual-machines

Also check this log file and upload here if possible - %ProgramData%\ASRSetupLogs\ASRUnifiedAgentInstaller.log

Make sure the installer is not blocked and running with admin permissions, restart the server and try again.

Hi Jimmy,

It has nothing to do with the OS version since the agent installed just fine, please read my post entirely. I am migrating 2019 so I'm good here.

The problem I am having is that I cannot find where to generate the mobility configuration file to move forward with the agent registration.

Hi @AdrianC

You can obtain the passphrase from the replication appliance. From the configuration server(Appliance) launch a windows command prompt and run below

C:\ProgramData\ASR\home\svsystems\bin\genpassphrase.exe -v to view the current passphrase.

Don't regenerate the passphrase. This will break connectivity and you will have to reregister the replication appliance.

and then proceed to register mobility agent with configuration server.

If the deployed appliance is ASR modern appliance, you can see details i provided for obtaining the passphrase on a similar thread here https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/1183528/azure-site-recovery-(modernized-vmware)-configurat

If the issue still exists, It is important to investigate the logs to know the exact cause of the issue. In that case please share the registration logs C:\ProgramData\ASRSetupLogs\ASRUnifiedAgentConfigurator.log to link to this thread to AzCommunity@microsoft.com with subject line as "ATTN: Priyanka".

Hi Prrudram,

I saw the article that you pasted here. It has nothing to do with the passphrase. The error in the above picture is because I put the passphrase in a file and did not accepted it.

I searched, and looks like some command lines need to be involved in order to generate that config file.

For the modern appliance, you need to copy machine details from the installation wizard and paste it on the appliance configuration manager UI to download the configuration file, steps available here https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/site-recovery/vmware-physical-mobility-service-overview#generate-mobility-service-configuration-file

Note: If you have done that already and still seeing a failure, please share the logs with me to know the exact cause of the issue. You can share the registration logs from C:\ProgramData\ASRSetupLogs\ASRUnifiedAgentConfigurator.log and a link to this thread to AzCommunity@microsoft.com with subject line as "ATTN: Priyanka".

I saw the article, but the if you read my question more closely you will see that I cannot find that option to generate the configuration file.

There is no such option in the Config Manager appliance.

That option is available in modern appliance, did you do a classic deployment? As per this document https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/migrate/tutorial-migrate-physical-virtual-machines

If yes, try the below method of mobility agent installation (Classic), it expects the passphrase in the format you have been passing it during registration. If there is an installation already done, please remove it from the control panel.

Navigate to %ProgramData%\ASR\home\svsystems\pushinstallsvc\repository on appliance.

Find the installer for the machine operating system and version. Review supported operating systems.

Copy the installer file to the machine you want to migrate and install mobility agent as per https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/migrate/tutorial-migrate-physical-virtual-machines#install-the-mobility-service

To generate the passphrase :

From the replication appliance. launch a command line, run C:\ProgramData\ASR\home\svsystems\bin\genpassphrase.exe -v to view the current passphrase.
