How to show street side views in azure map

Street view/streetside is not currently available in Azure Maps. This feature is currently only available in Bing Maps.

Update

Checking with the team, there are no plans to bring streetside to Azure Maps. The data in Bing Maps is pretty dated and not currently being updated. With this in mind, you may want to look at alternatives such as Mapillary which could be used with Azure Maps: https://github.com/mapillary/mapillary-js According to their terms of use, it is free: https://help.mapillary.com/hc/en-us/articles/360020754199-Pricing

Bing Maps was announced as end of life a few days ago.

Is Streetside available in Azure Maps yet?

Good question. I'll reach out to the Azure Maps team to find out. I know in the Bing Maps Enterprise platform this wasn't used by too many apps, so there might take a bit to get a clear answer on this. Note that for licensed customers, the Bing Maps Enterprise platform will be around till June of 2028 (4 years).

Then Microsoft shouldn't be trying to migrate users to an inferior service if it doesn't replace the offerings in bing maps. Nor should it become deprecated when azure static doesn't offer satellite imagery. You basically just told me that I wasted my time implementing azure maps and I should've used bing maps. Sad.

Azure Maps static does offer satellite imagery (use version 2024-04-01 and set tilesetId to microsoft.imagery): https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/rest/api/maps/render/get-map-static-image?view=rest-maps-2024-04-01&tabs=HTTP

As for streetside, it wasn't used very much by paying customers and is a very expensive service to provide. If Bing Maps wasn't being deprecated, it is highly likely that feature would be phased out as it is.

For streetside, you may want to look at alternatives such as Mapillary: https://github.com/mapillary/mapillary-js It could potentially be integrated in an Azure Maps app. According to their terms of use, it is free: https://help.mapillary.com/hc/en-us/articles/360020754199-Pricing

Hi @Matthew Teague ,

I wanted to dig a little into Ricky's statement "As for streetside, it wasn't used very much by paying customers and is a very expensive service to provide.". There is a reason paying customers would not choose our streetside. One step further that not only is it expensive, the provider that we purchased the imagery from no longer collects it, so we had to find a new source. What we found as a potential replacement offers less resolution, so it is either high res out of date imagery or low resolution within the last 3 years. Neither of these seemed to be a great option, so when paired with expensive to host and serve and not great content, a choice was made to not carry Streetside forward into Azure Maps.

As per the documentation on Azure Maps, Street views is not one of the supported map styles for Azure Maps. Please refer to the documentation Azure Maps supported built-in map styles to get more details on different styles support by Azure maps through various APIs. If you would like to get more details on how to change the style of Maps through a Web SDK, please refer the documentation Change the style of the map for detailed steps.

Please find a similar question, What does Azure Maps not feature street views?, opened in the recent past where the product team has responded confirming the limitation.
