Word(Onedrive) is Autosaving but there is no option to switch off Autosave?

Hi
When using Onedrive, Word has started Autosaving all changes to my documents, which means it no longer asks me if I want to save changes on closing a document. Not sure when this started, but think it might have been when Onedrive subscription was replaced by Microsoft Office365 Basic

I want to switch off Autosave and have looked everywhere for an option to switch it off with no success.
a) there is no Autosave option in the Word settings
      (File/Options/Save)
b) there is no Autosave on/off toggle button on the title bar on
      any Word document.
c) there is Autosave option on my Quick Access Toolbar (QAT), or
in the full QAT command list -
            (File/Options/Quick Access Toolbar)

How can I switch off Autosave please?

I am running -
MS-Office Home and Student 2019 (one time purchase)
Microsoft365 Basic subscription
Windows 10

    Hi,

Did this problem only appear in Word?

Did this problem appear in all Word documents?

Did you open the document from browser open in Desktop app? Or did you open the document from other ways?

Based on this article, it seems this feature only available for Microsoft 365 subscription:

    Hi Emi

    To answer your questions -

Problem happens only with Word (saving to Onedrive). Excel is OK.

Documents are opened in Word on desktop - 2019 edition.

I have read the article you sent but it doesn’t resolve the problem.

    Thanks for trying to help

    Peter
