    Hi @Alex.K ,

Came across the following thread which discusses the same error message. And according to the comments there, seems like it could be a backend incident recently. Could you have a look at the Service Health dashboard from your M365 admin center and see if there's anything which might be relevant?

SPO error message when I try to change can email address and add an alias in Office365

Besides, you can try adding the alias email for the user via the Azure portal instead and see if it can work:
    https://portal.azure.com/#view/Microsoft_AAD_UsersAndTenants/UserManagementMenuBlade/~/AllUsers

Select the user, click Edit properties, scroll down and choose Add email:

    Hi @Alex.K ,

It seems that microsoft indeed has some issues at this time, because now I'm able to add alias emails. All is OK.

So, it does appear to be some transient backend issue at that time. Anyways, great to know that all is OK now and thanks for sharing the update so that others experiencing the same thing can easily reference this!

By the way, since the Microsoft Q&A community has a policy that "The question author cannot accept their own answer. They can only accept answers by others", I'll repost the information you shared in case you'd like to "Accept" the answer : )
