How to restore application after removal of Active Directory Domain

Our support team accidentally removed the domain that was created for our Azure Active Directory. This domain was also somehow interlinked with the virtual machine that our application is on. Upon removing the domain, our application database stopped communicating with the server. We have temporarily moved the application to another server that our devs team owns, but now need to restore the application to our original Azure account. Is it possible to simply add back the domain that was deleted, or do we need to configure a new database and vm before moving the application back?
