Outlook on my personal pc will not allow me to follow links from an email, as my title says, I am to contact my helpdesk to learn why my organization's policies are preventing us from completing this action for you.

I do not have an organization running my personal pc, and I am the helpdesk. I am connected to my own network.

I cannot open any links from outlook from senders I trust. Also have noticed recently that Edge does not open for any hyperlinks in any application I use that does not originate from Edge. For example, when I am using Discord, and a link is shared with me (from a trusted source) it acts as though its a dead link. I have to copy the hyperlink and then paste it to the address bar. I have not tried using a default browser as I prefer Edge and all it has to offer. What is the fix for this and are there others out there experiencing the same issues?

    Hi @Katie

    Welcome to our forum!

According to the error message, it may be that Internet Explorer is set as the default browser in Windows. To resolve this issue, follow the methods provided in the following articles in order, and then check whether the issue is resolved after each method.

Method 1: Reset IE browser settings. Please note your browser version (if you are using Windows 8, Windows 8.1, or Windows 10, follow Method 2)

Method 2: Export and import the registry key from another computer. Please follow the steps in the article carefully. If you modify the registry incorrectly, serious problems can occur. Before you modify the registry, back up the registry so that you can restore it if something goes wrong.

I tried all those suggestion related to browser selections they did nothing to fix the problem for me.

What fixed the problem is the changing the computer's System Properties. That is the dialog where you define the Computer Name. On Windows 11 go to Setting | System | About. There click on Domain or workgroup. This will open System Properties dialog on Computer Name tab. Click Change... button next to the "To rename the computer or change its domain or workgroup, click Change" prompt. This will open Computer Name/Domain Changes dialog. Originally on my computer Member of selection was set to Domain. That is when I had the problems. It is my personal computer on the home network. There is no domain. I select Workgroup and entered the name. Two OKs and reboot and the problem solved. Once computer belongs to a workgroup the policy of blocking hyperlinks in the Outlook is no longer applies.
