Remove disabled Azure Subscription and remove Initial Domain (...onmicrosoft.com)

At my previous company I had a Microsoft Account created with my company e-mail address. I had also an Azure Subscription connected to that Microsoft Account. I then combined this Microsoft Account with my private e-mail address (it was the company policy plus I wanted to keep my Microsoft certificates, which are bound to this Microsoft Account). Now I want to get rid of some rests in my Azure portal account and I'm stuck at the moment:

  • how to remove a disabled Azure Subscription from my Microsoft Account? (It was my MSDN Subscription from my old company)
  • how to remove the initial domain from my old company? (....myoldcomany.onmicrosoft.com) - I already created a new one and set the new one to primary domain

Does it make sense trying this? Or maybe I could just remove my Azure Account and create a new one?

    @Jakub Sabacinski

    Thank you for the detailed post!

    I understand that you have questions regarding removing an Azure Subscription (disabled) and old initial domain (myoldcomany.onmicrosoft.com) and to hopefully help point you in the right direction or resolve your issue, I'll share my findings below.

    Findings:

    Cancel your Azure subscription

    When it comes to removing a disabled Azure Subscription from your Azure account, you should be able to do this manually or after your subscription is canceled, Microsoft waits 30 - 90 days before permanently deleting your data in case you need to access it, or if you want to reactivate the subscription. We don't charge you for keeping the data.

    The Delete subscription option isn't available until at least 15 minutes after you cancel your subscription. Depending on your subscription type, you may not be able to delete a subscription immediately.

    Note: The subscription is automatically deleted 90 days after you cancel a subscription.

    1. Select your subscription on the Subscriptions page in the Azure portal.
    2. Select the subscription that you want to delete.
    3. At the top of the subscription page, select Delete.

    Regarding the removal of the initial domain from your old company, since it's an onmicrosoft.com domain you won't be able to remove this since it's used behind the scenes for your subscription. For more info - Why do I have an "onmicrosoft.com" domain.
