Not allowed to edit ANY column settings in a list

I am the global system administrator.

I have added a list to a Microsoft 365 Sharepoint site with 5 columns so far. I am accessing the Sharepoint site from Microsoft Edge running in Windows 11 running in latest version of Parallels on an iMac. After trying to put in a couple of entries I want to edit the column settings of one or more columns. More specifically I want to checkmark the option

Can add values manually

When I press "Save" I receive the following - not very helpful - error message:

We could not edit the column. Please try again

This problem persists in relation to all columns in my list.

Is this simply an error in the software or am I doing som thing wrong?

TIA

/David

    Hi @David Lund ,

Initial guesses might be that it's because of using Parallels on an iMac.
It seems this is not a common issue. However, we can work together to narrow down and resolve the situation. So, Please kindly provide more information below to let us work further.

1.Are other users with permissions facing the same problem? View through another computer (No iMac)or account.

2.You could try to clear browser cache then restart it.

3.Try to use a different browser or your browser's InPrivate mode to see if the same error occurs.

4.Whether all SharePoint lists have the same problem? You could create a new SharePoint list to check.

5.Check if the same issue occurs with other SharePoint site collections.

Hope the information can help you. And if there have any unclear or misunderstanding, please feel free to post back and we’ll continue to help you all the time!

    Hi @David Lund ,

I'm glad to hear you solve the problem, if you have any issue about SharePoint, you are welcome to raise a ticket in this forum.

By the way, since the Microsoft Q&A community has a policy that "The question author cannot accept their own answer. They can only accept answers by others." and according to the scenario introduced here: Answering your own questions on Microsoft Q&A, I would make a brief summary of this thread:

[Not allowed to edit ANY column settings in a list]

    Current status:

Got it working by using the Safari browser running in my iMac OS environment.

You could click the "Accept Answer" button for this summary to close this thread, and this can make it easier for other community member's to see the useful information when reading this thread. Thanks for your understanding!
