I want to delete my email address

I am trying to delete a Hotmail account that I no longer require. The email address has been in a number of data breaches given it's age and I get too much spam. I have another email address that I am happy with and have migrated all of my important contacts to this.

Microsoft won't let delete the account because I can't complete this step...

"Cancel any current business or organizational services and delete any Microsoft Entra tenants. All business or organizational services registered on this account will become inaccessible. You can review some-but not all-of these services in Azure Portal"

I don't even know what the above is and have never used it. When I try to cancel the above services it tells me I can't because I am the only user. So I am in a Catch 22 situation. I want to delete the old email address as it is a security risk and I don't use it anymore, but I can't do so until I cancel the services in the Azure portal. If I don't find a solution soon, I will need to send details of the issue to the Australian Communications and Media Authority. Delete and Cancel don't even exist in the list of tags you can add to questions like this one. Can anyone help?

If you are the only global admin on the account and are blocked entirely, you can reach out to the Azure / 365 Data Protection team to restore access. 866-807-5850 (so you can close it)

    Hi Simon Preston,

Thanks for confirming that there was a resource (Microsoft Teams free Trial) in Disabled state which should be in Deleted state, and once it' state is changed as Deleted, you were able to delete the Azure account and now your email ID is queued for deletion.

<<Sharing below learning for the benefit of other community users who might be looking for solution to similar issue.>>

If anyone gets into similar issue, please double-check if you have any Azure services and if you see any, either you have to delete them first or move them to a different account. Then, you would overcome the error and will be able to delete the Azure account and associated email ID.
