Where are deleted bookmarks stored in edge/windows?

I am importing fav's from edge to chrome.

If I use an html file for import, this works fine.

imported

If I use the import bookmarks and settings function in chrome, I get a list of long deleted bookmarks.

IFEdge

So where is windows/edge storing this long deleted data?

It is not in bookmarks or the bookmarks.bak.

Cache and history have all be cleared.

Also poked my nose all over here: C:\Users%USERNAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge\User Data*

Aside from reinstalling windows, what can I do to clear this old data?

Thanks in advance.

    Hi @Not Now ,

You could try following things to delete your old favorites.

1.please navigate to the edge://settings/profiles/sync and turn off the sync favorites.

2.Go to edge://favorites(or pressing Ctrl + Shift + O) and click Deleted favorites on left panel.

If there have any stored deleted favorites items, you could right-click (or select and hold) the item and select delete permanently.

    3.Clear your browsing data.
Settings> Privacy and services> Under the “Clear browsing data” section, click the Choose what to clear button>

Check the boxes "Browsing history, Cookies and saved website data" and "All data from the previous version of Microsoft Edge" etc. and click on Clear now.

4.Try to re-export and import favorites and check if the issue persists.

    Morning Wenying Lu.

Did your steps 1-4. (on two machines)(note: chrome on my laptop did not give me the option to import from edge. (scary from a security stand point(when looking for item that shouldn't exist))

Deleted items are still showing up when I use the import bookmarks and settings function in chrome.

What files are these items hidden in in windows/edge?

    "<DT><H3 ADD_DATE="1698148858" LAST_MODIFIED="1698754513">Links</H3>"

I would think I am looking for something like the above, unless these items are buried in the reg file.

    Thanks in advance.
