How do I resolve error ID 153051 in Azure VM replication?

My Azure VM replication is displaying error ID 153051 - VSS writer failed for an application. App consistency recovery points cannot be generated. The Error text suggests a possible cause of VSS writer SqlServerWriter failed with error 0x800423f4 during After DoSnapshotSet phase on the source machine.

Where do I start to troubleshoot and resolve this issue? It is preventing the replication from being completed successfully.

    The question linked above had the same issue with an answer that resolved my issue as well - changing the Azure Site Recovery VSS Provider service from "Manual" to "Automatic".
