MFA change next year

I understand next year Microsoft will have a heavy push to the Microsoft Authenticator app. Will the Security defaults option in Microsoft Extra enable admins to still use SMS?

Path: Sign in to the Microsoft Entra admin center as at least a Security Administrator.

1: Browse to Identity > Overview > Properties.

2: Select Manage security defaults.

3: Set Security defaults to Enabled.

I also found this method and wonder if this will enable us to filter beyond the deadline as well: Extra-ID admin center>Protection>Authentication Methods>Settings>System-preferred MFA. Choose state disabled

Microsoft Security | Microsoft Entra | Microsoft Entra ID

Yes, if you didn't want this to happen then sign in here. (with your Azure / 365 account)

    https://portal.azure.com/#home

then navigate to Microsoft Entra ID\Properties\Manage security defaults then choose Disabled
