How does Billing work with the migration to LA workspaces with App Insights

So I migrated my Dev and Stage Application insights to the new LA workspace model. I created a new workspace for it so the only data there, is new data being sent in from the App Insights instances. My goal here was to just monitor cost really. My prod env is much larger and more expensive so I was a bit apprehensive about this upcoming change. My question is this, was my monthly cost for each AppInsights already including the data it was ingesting? I ask this because since I've migrated I've been monitoring the costs and it seems my AppInstances instances are cheaper, but now half the cost is in the LA workspace its sending the data to. I'm not sure if this is just coincidence or how this should be working. If this is true it seems like it wont actually up the cost for most people, it will now just be split between the AppInsight resource, and the LA resource? (I understand I am not using that much data in these lower environments and this will likely not be a 50-50 split like in my instance, but would still roughly equal what you were paying prior)

Below are the numbers I've pulled from billing.

@Stephen Marts Data ingestion and data retention for a classic Application Insights resource follow the same pay-as-you-go pricing as workspace-based resources. There's usually no difference, with a couple of exceptions:

    • Migrated Application Insights resources can use Log Analytics commitment tiers to reduce cost if the data volumes in the workspace are high enough.
    • Grandfathered Application Insights resources no longer get 1 GB per month free from the original Application Insights pricing model.
