Auto-hide windows don't hide if mouse is hovering

So when you set a window to be auto-hide with the tiny icon on top right, for example for the Output window, or the Error window, what you get is that the window will close/hide when you press Esc, or you click with the mouse on some other window. That is all great and used to work just fine, until someone decided to "improve" it so that now, when you press Esc, it will only close under the condition that the mouse cursor is not position inside that window (the auto-hide window). If it is, the focus moves away but the window isn't hidden!

I know they thought of themselves as really clever for coming up with this trick, but it's extremely annoying. It's not like your mouse is always used to point things in the window; for those of us who favor using the keyboard, we don't really pay attention to where the mouse cursor is most of the time, and we want consistent predictable behavior on keyboard presses!

This is also most annoying when say you're in the error message and you press Enter on a message and the window will close or not close depending on whether your mouse happens to be within the limits of the Error window!

Is there any way to change this back to the way it was before, and have consistent behavior regardless of the mouse position - e.g. if it's Auto-Hide, the window will close on Esc or Enter, always.

Anyone else find this frustrating?

    Hello @George-9448,

Thank you for taking time to post this issue in Microsoft Q&A forum.

The Auto-hide feature is set like what you mentioned in Visual Studio, and currently there’s no option meets your requirements.

Please kindly suggest this feature by submitting a suggestion ticket on our Developer Community and share the ticket link here for better tracking.

BTW, if you can confirm that the specific version of previous version of Visual Studio 2022 works, then you can try to install a specific version of VS 2022 by downloading from here: Fixed version bootstrapper.

Thanks for helping us make Visual Studio better, have a nice day.

    Sincerely,

    Tianyu
