Q1: The classic application insights had an API access ability so you could query the data from app insights programmatically. I do not see this in the log analytics where data may migrate to. How do you issue queries against log analytics? Q2: After migration is complete to Log analytics, can the classic app insights resource be deleted? Will that remove the connection string / api key? Does log analytics have its own connection string to replace the old one with? Its been 12+ hours since I started the migration. I'm not seeing the table(s) from my migrated app insights yet in the Log analytics 'Logs' page. Do I need to wait a bit longer? Also, it appears new data appears when issue queries in the classic app insights 'Logs'. When fully migrated I should see the new data in log analytics Logs page only right?

Hi, New and old data can be both queried from the App insights app in Logs tab. New data will be visible also in Log Analytics logs but not the old data. For example if you have availability tests when you go to the Log Analytics workspace on the Logs tab and execute query for table AppAvailabilityResults you should see new data there. Tables will appear 5-10 minutes after a new data is logged for the corresponding table.

Thanks. I think I mostly get it now. But I think the documentation is kinda misleading a little bit. After reading the documentation it seems that the data would stop appearing in the old app insights and only appear in log analytics. Instead it seems it appears in the migrated app insights, and you have to forward it to the log analytics explicitly using the export UI. I'm still testing to see if that is a copy, or if it is completely moved there. Also there are two settings for workspace. One in the properties\Workspace setting and one where you forward your data. Apparenlty they can be different. I don't understand what the difference between the two settings is if the properties\workspace setting doesn't automatically ingest the data from app insights.

Ok. I guess it is copying the data through but the table names are different. customEvents => AppEvnets , requests => AppRequests, etc

You can add feedback on the documentation via GitHub issues. What happens underneath is that the storage for your data becomes Log Analytics but you still have App Insights for the old data and for the tailored experience.

I found that the new data being logged is available both via the old App Insights kusto tables (where you can query old+new data together) and the new data is available in the Log analytics workspace with the schema changes you mentioned.
