Q1: The classic application insights had an API access ability so you could query the data from app insights programmatically. I do not see this in the log analytics where data may migrate to. How do you issue queries against log analytics? User's image

Q2: After migration is complete to Log analytics, can the classic app insights resource be deleted? Will that remove the connection string / api key? Does log analytics have its own connection string to replace the old one with?

Q3: Can you point me to documentation on how to query cross the old app insights and the new log analytics for reports during the time period of migration? i.e. it's mentioned it is possible here. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-monitor/app/convert-classic-resource

Hi, Log Analytics also have the capability to query data. Full information can be found here.

No, You do not delete the classic app insights. The main difference between classic app insights and the new one is that the new one is attached to Log Analytics workspace. You still have the resource for the app insights and you can use specific App insights features within it. Your old data will be available via the new query data in Log Analytics. From the docs "When you migrate to a workspace-based resource, no data is transferred from your classic resource's storage to the new workspace-based storage. Choosing to migrate changes the location where new data is written to a Log Analytics workspace while preserving access to your classic resource data." and also: Does migration affect AppInsights API accessing data?

No. Migration doesn't affect existing API access to data. After migration, you can access data directly from a workspace by using a slightly different schema.
