Migrate mobile devices from another MDM (Sophos) to Intune

Morning, I have 600 devices to migrate from another MDM to Intune. I want to know the ways to do this task. Can I migrate with zero touch, without factory reset? Can I migrate all devices (Massive action), how? Should user scan QR? Download company portal? What are the steps to do? Thanks and regards,

There is no direct migration path (officially). How are the devices enrolled in your current MDM solution? If supervised then you are looking at a reset in order to enroll in Intune. If you user based method, then you can enroll the devices in Intune using Company Portal method to keep the user disruption to a minimum.

There are third-party solutions that you can engage. EBF Onboarder is the one that we are looking to use for migration of 2200 devices from MaaS360 to Intune. They charge by the number of devices to migrate, so the solution is fairly affordable.

@SergiEE, Thanks for posting in Q&A. To move to Intune, users must unenroll their devices from the current MDM provider before they enroll in Intune. Here is a link list the steps you can do.

Due to device enrollment, we use different enrollment methods for different scenarios with different platforms. And some needs to do factory reset like Android Enterprise Fully managed enroll, dedicated enroll, corporate-owned with work profile, ADE, Autopilot and etc. You can know more details about enrollment methods in the following link:

Morning, I know... Only with BYOD profile we can do it without factory reset, right? Can someone tell me the difference between BYOD and COPE?¿ Really differences. I know we can restric applications in personal profile (with COPE) but... How can I know if this device is using COPE or BYOD? Because both creates a work profile. Inside of the device how can I check this?

@SergiEE, Thanks for the reply. For mobile devices, yes, BYOD didn't need to reset. But BYOD is only for personal devices. For personal device, it collect less information and Microsoft Intune offers more granular settings and policies for devices classified as corporate-owned.

To identity if the device is personal or corporate, you can check the ownership of the device information in Intune.

Crystal, good morning. I know how to check it in console, but I need to know how to identify as user (at the device) . What are these settings / policies? For example? Can we enroll COPE WITHOUT factory reset ? Thanks a lot!

@SergiEE, Thanks for the reply. Based as I know, Android Enterprise Personally owned with work profile is enrolled via Company portal. Android Enterprise Coporate owned with work profile needs to do factory reset and will install Microsoft Authenticator and Microsoft Intune apps automatically. So we can identity the device via the apps installed on the device.
