Hi, We need to migrate custom domain from one instance of FrontDoor to another. I saw some questions here about this, and in the past this was not possible with 0 downtime. However, in one of the discussions I saw someone mentioned Microsoft have domain migration on the roadmap. Any chance Microsoft now provides a way to migrate custom domain without any downtime? Thanks.

    Hi @Vytas

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A and thank you for posting your questions here.

You were asking on how you can migrate your custom domain between FrontDoor instances without downtime.

Microsoft continuously updates its services and there are two possible ways to migrate Microsoft Frontdoor custom domain without any downtime:

    • Route the traffic to the origin or another CDN, delete the host from the old Frontdoor and add it to the new Frontdoor. This is the only way to move a host without downtime currently, as a host cannot be added to the new Frontdoor if it already exists in the old one.
    • Upgrade from Standard to Premium tier without downtime. This capability is also supported during the migration from Frontdoor (classic) to the new Frontdoor tier.
