Hello team,

When I use Teams chat with my colleagues, I have the capability to add apps. However, when I use Teams chat with an external user, we lose the added app functionality.

Is this behavior by design, or is it an issue? If it’s by design, could you please provide a link explaining this? And if it’s an issue, could you guide me on the steps to address it?

Thank you for your help !

    Hi @J-3804

When using Microsoft Teams chat with external users, the added app functionality is not available. This is because external access users can't add, update, or delete apps into any context, such as a personal, chat, channel, or meeting. They don't have access to the Teams app store of the hosting organization.

Teams users can add apps when they host meetings or chats with people from other organizations. If you can't add app in chat with external user, there are possible solutions that you can try:

    • Sign out of Teams and sign back in again.
    • Update MS Teams to the latest version.
    • Uninstall Teams from your device, then reinstall it.
    • Clear the Teams cache from your device.
    • If you’re using the Teams desktop or mobile app, try using the web version: https://teams.microsoft.com/.

Hope the above information is helpful for you!
