Configure Backup to the resource group.

I created backup vault and configure the backup policy but i am unable to apply it to the resource group.

Hi,

Backup policies are not applied to a resource group. They are applied to specific resource. From the screenshot we can see that you are searching for Azure Database for MySQL flexible server resource but you do not have such resource thus you cannot assign the policy to it. The resources that are supported by the backup vault are: Azure Disks, Azure Blobs, Azure Kubernetes (AKS), Azure Database for MySQL flexible server and Azure Database for MySQL single server. Also the resources should be located in the same region as the backup vault.

Update: Use Automated backups in Azure SQL Database where you can configure 12 hour or 24 hour frequency. You can also configure short term retention in days and long term retention in weeks, months and years.

I have SQL database under resource group how can i apply the backup policy.

As I have mentioned this backup vault backs up certain type of resources. Azure SQL database is not one of them. Azure SQL database has its own backup feature that does not require vault. Automated backups in Azure SQL Database

But in the automated backups i cannot able to configure daily backups what i need was to configure daily backups.

That is the only way to backup Azure SQL database. Azure Backup does not support Azure SQL database as I have stated multiple times. The Azure SQL database backup option allows you to configure the frequency which can be 12 or 24 hours. 24 hours = 1 day so it is daily backup.

Indeed there is a differential backup of 12/24 hrs but its retaining only weekly backups,Maybe we have to change from basic to standard tier?

Hi,

Basic sku is not something you should use in production. Basic is mainly for testing purposes. There are a lot of limitations on Basic. Nevertheless as you can see from above you have short term retention (How many days you would like PTR backups to be kept?) and long term retention (Weekly LTR backups). Long term backup is optional. Short term backup defines in days how long the backup will be kept. Long term backup:

"To enable LTR, you can define a policy using a combination of four parameters: weekly backup retention (W), monthly backup retention (M), yearly backup retention (Y), and week of the year (WeekOfYear). If you specify W, one backup every week is copied to long-term storage. If you specify M, the first backup of each month is copied to the long-term storage. If you specify Y, one backup during the week specified by WeekOfYear is copied to the long-term storage. If the specified WeekOfYear is in the past when the policy is configured, the first LTR backup is created the following year. Each backup is kept in long-term storage according to the policy parameters that are configured when the LTR backup is created."

My question is how to configure daily backups there is option to configure weekly, monthly, yearly but daily was not there.

Mentioned it this a couple of times. Configure Automated backups in Azure SQL Database with frequency 24 hours. The weekly, monthly and yearly options are for retention not how frequently the backup occurs.
