Virtual Network Gateway has periodic network issue

Hi,

Our VPN regularly has network issue starting a few weeks ago. We do not make any change in the configuration, so I don't think it's triggered by anything on our side.

You can see it from the image below: Screenshot 2024-04-15 at 3.58.34 PM

The resource health monitor also shows that something snapped on 9 Apr.

Can you please advise what might be the issue here?

I understand that your VPN has regular network issues starting 9 April and you would like to know the root cause behind it.

Could you please expand on the 9th April health event in the resource health monitor (in your screenshot) and share the snip with the event details?

Also, when you say regular network issues, are you facing disconnections or network drops in the VPN connection? What is the exact issue and how did you validate it?

Also, when you say regular network issues, are you facing disconnections or network drops in the VPN connection? What is the exact issue and how did you validate it?

It's from the amount of data that we are receiving as seen from the charts.

Is there a way to see if there have been any disconnection and reconnection events for the VPN?

Thank you for the details.

I checked internally and found that there are few other customers who have reported the same issue, and the support team has already engaged the backend team for further investigation.

Currently, there are no definitive updates regarding the investigation. However, it appears to be an emerging issue.

This issue has also been reported by few other customers on the below Q&A post:

I would suggest creating a support request for this issue, so that the support team can add your VPN gateway details to the existing incident that is being worked on by the backend team for further investigation and root cause analysis.

Yes, I've created the support request and they have given to me their feedback. Thank you for this follow-up question.

Just to conclude, so there are actually two unrelated different issues in my post here:

The resource health alert logs.

This one is perhaps resolved apparently after some recent patch delivered by Azure. The health statuses are mostly green. There is only one red alert. I'm still monitoring it.

The intermittent VPN disconnection.

Based on their feedback, for this one I'll need to check the configuration on-premise.

Basically I've got the conclusion I need from this post. I'll follow-up on the 2nd issue on the support ticket I have raised.

I checked internally and found that there are few other customers who have reported the same issue, and the support team has already engaged the backend team for further investigation.

Later, we received an update that the issue has been mitigated and the multiple 'Unknown Resource Health Event' messages should have stopped by now.

The alerts above were false negatives and this was a purely cosmetic issue and had no effect on the actual connectivity.

If you are observing any connectivity issues, then a support request should be created for further investigation.

You confirmed that you are observing connectivity issues on your VPN and have already raised a support request where the support team has advised to check the configuration on-premises. So, you will be validating the configuration for further resolution of this issue.
