Unable to use whatsapp web on Azure Windows VMs

I have been using web whatsapp on my Azure Windows 10 VM for years. All of a sudden, it stopped working from the last couple of weeks. When I tried to link my device on https://web.whatsapp.com by scanning the QR code the page refreshes and shows up a new QR code. And an error is shown on my mobile phone.

Apparently, this doesn't work only in the Azure VMs. I tested it successfully on my other Windows computers. My Azure VM is located in Central India. Tried on 2 Azure VMs (Windows 10 and Windows 11) with the same results. Both on Chrome and Edge browsers.

Ensure Chrome and Edge, they are updated to the latest versions. Outdated browsers might have compatibility issues with Web WhatsApp.

Clear your browser's cache and cookies.

Try temporarily disabling all extensions and see if Web WhatsApp works.

Check your VM's firewall settings and see if any rules might be blocking connections to WhatsApp servers.

You can try connecting using a VPN set to a different location (check local regulations regarding VPN use).

    Hello,

Thank you for posting in Q&A forum.

If DNS resolution fails, it can display various kinds of error message.

However, there will be different scenarios for stand alone windows server or domain joined server.

For stand alone windows server, you will see DNS resolution failed related error.

For domain joined server you may find this server fail to communicate with DC as it cannot resolve the domain name of dc. Hence related domain service will be impacted.

    Best regards,

    Jill Zhou
