Hi, We have a Java/JSP/Servet web application and launch a new Edge instance in IE mode with "-noframemerging" option to make sure each window has its own session to prevent data mixed problem. But when we start our application from the same source twice very quickly, it often launches two windows with same session id, and their data is mixed. If we wait until the first application loading to be completed then click again to start the second application, it always works in its own session and no session data mixed. Is there anyway you can think of to fix this and prevent session merger in Edge with IE mode? Thanks.

Thank you for your help. Our application url is on the "Internet Explorer mode site list" with "no-merge" option from my workplace as you suggested.

It is not working so we are trying the old "'-noframemerging" in IE.

We start our application from an url inside another internal source application. If we wait until our first application loading is over, it works and no session merged. But we start our second application while the first one is still loading, their sessions will be merged.

But if we open a second Edge tab for the source application then start our second application from there, there is no session problem. It always works perfect.

So it looks like if the source application is from the same session then our applications will be launched in the same session as well when we try to launch them at the same time.

If source applications are from two different sessions then our applications will be launched in different sessions as we expected.

Please try this from your side and let me know if you have any suggestion. Thanks.

I read your description. But I need to confirm a few points with you. When the second application you mentioned is opened, does it cover the tab of the first application? Or is it opened in a different tab? Please note that navigation in the same IE mode tab will use the same session. This is the default behavior.

No the second one doesn't cover the first one. It starts its own tab. In fact, if we start a new Edge instance then start the second application it always works fine, no session issue. But if we use the same Edge instance and start the second application while the first one is still loading, their sessions will be merged, unless we start the second one after the first one loading is done.

I saw that you mentioned earlier that you are trying the old "'-noframemerging" in IE. I wonder if this behavior is the same as in Edge IE mode. Will the session merging phenomenon also occur?

I guess this may be a problem with the IE engine. After all, now "noframemerging" and "no-merge" have the same phenomenon. And the "loading" state you mentioned to reproduce the problem is also difficult for me to reproduce here. So, I may need more time to test. Thank you for your understanding.

I deployed an IE mode site with "no-merge" on my device. And this site contains two links (link1 and link2). Then I tried my best to reproduce the problem you described---"Quickly click the second link when the first link is loading or click the second link when the first link is loaded to observe the merge (I observed it through cookies).

In my test, when I open these two links in a new tab (regardless of loading or loaded), the session will be merged, but When I open another Microsoft Edge instance or window and navigate to the same site, it was in its own IE session. This is also mentioned in the documentation. So, according to the documentation, we should make sure to open the site in a new instance or new window, in this case, it will definitely be no-merge.

I always open a new window by right-clicking the mouse. There is no fragment involving this function in my code. However, as far as I know. It should be possible to use the window.open() method to open a new window.

Thanks a lot. I tried your suggestion. If we use things like this:

window.open('https://aaaApp?caseNumber=111&folderNumber=222', 'CAA', '_blank', 'top=0 left=0; toolbar=0,location=0,directories=0,status=1,menubar=0,scrollbars=1,resizable=1,copyhistory=0, height=500 width=500' );

It always work with a new news session. But if I use things like this (without third parameter):

window.open('https://aaaApp/searchDoc.action?caseNumber=111&folderNumber=222', 'CAA', '_blank');

It won't work and session merge will happen.

Is this supposed to work this way? Do we have to add all three parameters in order to have a new session here?

Sorry one more thing. This code only works if we use JavaScript to open two or three links one by one. If we use buttons or links (with different parameters) and click them quickly one by one, then their windows/sessions will be merged into one unless we click one after the previous one loading is done. How can we fix it? Thanks.

I read your reply and did some tests based on your reply.

For the first question, when you add the third parameter, it will work in a new session, but if you don't add the third parameter, the session will be merged. This is because the third parameter has set the ratio of the new window (such as height, width, etc.), so it will open a new window configured according to the third parameter. If you don't add the third parameter, it will open a new edge tab by default. So, the root cause is still what I mentioned in the official document I provided you before. IE mode's no-merge will only work in a new window or a new instance. If you don't configure the third parameter, a real new window will not be opened, and of course it will merge.

For the second question, whether it is loading or loaded, as long as it is guaranteed to be in a new window or instance, it will no-merge.

In short, according to the official document of ie mode no-merge, the mechanism to be satisfied is to open in a new window or another instance. In this case, it will definitely be no-merge.
