supported groups for group writeback

Learnpath 3 says:

Note

The Group writeback feature doesn't involve security groups or distribution groups.

But what other groups do exist on onpremise AD to be written back to? I think this is an error and only mail-enabled security groups and distribution groups are ment here. Or am I mistaken?

Hi @Gijs ,

The learn path might be differentiating between security group writeback and Microsoft 365 group writeback. Mail-enabled groups and DLs written back using older releases of Microsoft Entra Connect group writeback aren't supported, so that might also be what the learn path was referencing. For security groups, only cloud-created security groups can be written back to AD.

For a Microsoft Entra Microsoft 365 group, you can write it back as a security group, a distribution group, or a mail-enabled security group. For a Microsoft Entra security group, you can write it back only as a security group.
