Microsoft support for USB 4 has been spotty. My vague understanding is USB 4 is actually a subset of Thunderbolt 4 (Intel). And that most devices and software work better with Thunderbolt 4 because of USB 4 software drivers catching up.

It now appears that Windows 11 24h2 is finally catching up with support for USB 4.

    Hello,

Thank you for posting in Q&A forum.

USB 4 is based on the Thunderbolt 3 specification but brings some enhancements and unifies the USB and Thunderbolt ecosystem. While Thunderbolt 4 (primarily developed by Intel) builds on Thunderbolt 3, it ensures a higher level of performance and compatibility.

Microsoft has indeed been working on improving USB4 support in Windows 11. Starting with Windows 11 build 22621.1778, the Settings app now includes a dedicated page for USB4 hubs and devices, allowing users to view and manage their USB4 peripherals more effectively. This update is part of Microsoft’s ongoing efforts to enhance compatibility and performance for USB4 devices.
