Simple Multi-factor Authentication

Question

Apparently I need to set-up my one Azure portal user for multi-factor authentication - is there a very simple explanation of this anywhere?

To achieve this, you can leverage on the Per-user MFA feature in Azure.

1. Sign in to the Microsoft Entra admin center as at least an Authentication Administrator.
2. Browse to Identity > Users > All users.
3. Select Per-user MFA.

Thank you for posting this in Microsoft Q&A.

There are 2 ways to enable MFA for users in your organization.

• Per-user MFA
• Enforce MFA via conditional access policies

Per-user MFA

• Login to Entra ID portal (https://entra.microsoft.com/) using Global admin credentials.
• Go to "All users" and select "Per-user MFA" on the top.

Once you select this option you will get to see the list of users who are available in your directory.

• And you can select users to whom you want to enable MFA.
• This will enforce MFA on selected users while trying to access any of the Azure resources. Enforce MFA via conditional access policies
• Login to Entra ID portal (https://entra.microsoft.com/) using Global admin credentials.
• Expand Protection >> Conditional access
• Here you can create new policies. In these policies you assign all users and enforce MFA while access any Azure resources. Also, you can enforce MFA using on specific apps or it can be assigned to specific users etc.
• There are multiple conditions depending on which you can let MFA trigger for users.
