Employee company laptop setup

I am starting a company and have reached a point at which I need to start issuing work computers to employees. I have a Microsoft 365 Business Basic subscription and I purchased a trial of Microsoft InTune (thinking this is necessary to set up employee devices).

I purchased a laptop and am in the process of setting it up. On initial startup, the laptop requires a login to Microsoft. When I enter the new employee's company account, I get a message that the account can't be found.

What steps do I need to follow in order to buy a new device that can login at startup with the Microsoft account I've created for them?

@Kevin Sutherland Thanks for your update.

1.Assign intune license to the target user that you want to do enrollment.

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/intune/fundamentals/licenses-assign

2.Use a local account to sign in this device. The easiest enrollment method is Open the Settings app > Accounts > Access work or school > Connect, select Join this device to Azure Active Directory, and enter the user that has an intune license and enter the information they're asked.

3.When the process is finished, please check if this device exists in intune portal and MDM shows "intune". If yes, it means this device is enrolled successfully.

    Hope it will help.

@Kevin Sutherland Thanks for posting in our Q&A.

For this issue, I have noticed that you used intune. Is this device enrolled to intune? Based on my understanding, when the device is enrolled to intune and join type shows "Microsoft Entra joined", we can use employee's company account to sign in the device.

No, I still haven't found the right steps I need to add the device to InTune. I'm wondering if I need a different license level? It's possible I'm just not finding the right buttons to click:). Do you have the steps for enrolling a device in InTune?

Thanks! I am able to set up the work account and it is showing in InTune. However, the local account is still showing as the admin on the computer and must login to access the computer. How can I remove the local account so only the work account is used to access the corporate device?
