Using the free Power BI desktop version, how do I sign-in?

I am unable to sign-in using my email account - Kari_Berndt@msn.com. Thank you for the assistance.

It seems you’re trying to sign in to Power BI Desktop using a personal email account like msn.com. Power BI requires a work or school account that’s linked to Microsoft 365 or Azure Active Directory (Entra ID). Personal email addresses, including MSN, Gmail, or Hotmail, are not supported for sign-in.

Here are your options:

Sign in with a work or school account: If you have access to an organizational email, you can use that to sign in.

Create a Microsoft 365 or Entra ID account: If you don’t have a work or school account, consider setting up a Microsoft 365 trial account to obtain a business email that you can use for Power BI.

For Power BI Desktop specifically, you can still use the tool without signing in to the Power BI Service; however, some features like publishing to the Power BI cloud platform will require a work or school account.

Hi Syed: I was informed to purchase Office365 to upgrade the version of Pwr BI. I did this on Friday, 10/11/2024. I received an email confirmation for the family 365. Unfortunately, there is no data re the upgrade to Pwr BI. Today, I have talked to three different people without resolving the issue. I was informed that I do not need Office 365 for Pwr BI advanced SERVICE module capabilities. I am not able to log in using my sign-on: Kari@Rufus2024.onmicrosoft.com. The "Kari" portion is not identified or accepted. If I go to my Microsoft account, there is no record of a recent purchase despite that fact that I have an email confirmation. The other issue is that this is a personal account - not related to Gainwell Technologies. I am on UDEMY for a Pwr BI class. I do not need the extra security as I already have the MS Authenticator on my cell phone; there is no need for another version. I am hoping you will assist me, Syed, as I would like to move forward. BTW: Support using this phone number 1 800-936-3100 is not feasible because I do not have that level of account. The Commercial Cloud number 1 800 865-9408 has a recording that alerts to a high number of users. After holding, my call was disconnected.

Please reach out to your IT or admin team to help with troubleshooting login issues and subscription validation for Power BI. Since your Power BI and Office 365 licenses may involve different configurations, your IT department will be able to verify whether the correct subscription is assigned to your account and ensure that access issues are resolved.

Hi Syed: You are most welcome! Thank you for the response. I am using the Power BI application on my personal computer. I work for a healthcare entity. I am assisting with implementing a data conversion and data analytics modules via Databricks project. As the data is not avail just yet, I wanted to learn the Power BI tool because that is how the analytics/output will be managed. I did add another Microsoft Authenticator account for the Power BI application. Now, I am able to sign in using the fake work account. I will have to figure out how to configure my own personal computer. :) BTW: I am not sure if the Microsoft trainings are that helpful because I am not able to participate in the exercises (i.e., Get data in Power BI training). I do have a Udemy account which I will use too. I will continue with my Power BI journey today. Thank you!
