WSUS: After adding W11 as product, W10 machines can not search for updates anymore

Hi,

we are using a WSUS Server to deploy updates within our network. Since we started deploying Windows 11 i added the product in the WSUS console. Right after, my Windows 10 Clients (22H2) run into a timeout when searching for updates. It happens right after i add the product. It does not matter if i approve the Windows 11 updates or not. The search on W10 is broken as soon as the product is added.

So i went ahead and completely re-installed both of my WSUS Servers (Up and Downstram) set everything up from scratch (AJtec Cleanup, SSL, IIS optimizations, etc) and everything worked fine UNTIL i added "Windows 11" to the products again. This again led to my Windows 10 Clients not being able to search for updates anymore. I already tried downloading Updates in all available languages (seen that on another thread) but that did not help either.

Has anyone had similiar problems?

Best regards,

Hannes

Hello

This problem seems to be related to how WSUS handles the addition of new products and their updates. Here are some insights and potential solutions based on the information I found:

WSUS displays all Windows 11 clients as Windows 10: This article explains that WSUS might display Windows 11 clients as Windows 10 due to how the product name is reported in the registry. This issue is mostly aesthetic but could potentially cause confusion.

Server 2022 WSUS shows Windows 11 clients as Windows 10: Similar to the previous article, this one discusses how Windows 11 reports its version to WSUS, which might be causing the issue you're seeing.

It is finally solved... So in between the WSUS server and the clients are several firewalls.

Before, we only allowed Port 8531 from the clients to the server wich was sufficient as the WSUS server is completely configured to SSL and the clients are et to use port 8531. It worked like this alle the time but now, after adding port 8530 to the firewall rule, the problem was instantly gone.

Thank you for your help! I Hope this finds someone facing the same problem in the future.

    Have a good one!

That is a very odd problem. I've never heard of that before. Does WAM run through properly without errors (assuming default installation without modifications)?

Have you tried running the client side script on one of the offending client systems?
