Extra PostgreSQL product added to my Invoice, paying for 2 PostgreSQL database products now

I am using a PostgreSQL database, type 'Flexible Server Storage', costing me about 12 euro every month.

On the new Invoice this month, an extra PostgreSQL product has been added, type ' Flexible Server Burstable BS Series Compute', costing me about 13 euro extra.

I haven't changed anything, can't remember any email about this.

What happend? How can I change this back to the previous situation. I don't see 2 databases in my resources, so why am I charged twice?

    Hi Eelco,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

It seems that you might be encountering an issue related to the billing structure of Azure PostgreSQL Flexible Server. Here’s what might be happening:

Storage and Compute Costs: In Azure PostgreSQL Flexible Server, you are billed separately for storage and compute resources. The ‘Flexible Server Storage’ charge represents the storage capacity for your PostgreSQL database, while the ‘Burstable BS Series Compute’ charge is for the CPU and memory resources (compute) used by the server.

Billing Changes: Recently, Azure might have separated these charges in their billing system, which could explain the extra item on your invoice. Earlier, you might have been billed for these resources together, but now they appear as separate items.

Burstable Compute: The BS series is a burstable compute tier, which is generally more cost-effective for workloads that do not require constant CPU performance. If this was selected, you are charged based on CPU and memory usage within this compute series.

    Steps to Resolve:

Check Server Pricing Tier: Go to the Azure Portal and navigate to your PostgreSQL Flexible Server resource.

Check if the pricing tier is set to Burstable BS series. You can change this if it does not match your intended configuration.

Go to the Compute + Storage section of your server and verify both compute and storage configurations.

Verify Invoices: Review the detailed breakdown of your recent invoices on the Cost Management + Billing section of the Azure Portal. This will show the exact resources being billed.

Billing Support: If you don’t recall making any changes, it’s possible there could have been a platform-related adjustment. In such cases, it is best to contact Azure Billing Support directly. They can help clarify any unexpected charges and assist you in reverting to your previous setup if necessary.

You can reach out Azure billing and subscription management team by creating a billing support request. Billing support request via Azure portal is free for all Azure customers and doesn't require a paid support plan. Please select 'Billing' under 'issue type' while creating the support request. https://azure.microsoft.com/en-in/support/create-ticket

    Adjust Pricing Tier (if necessary):

If you prefer not to use the burstable compute tier, you can switch back to a different compute tier under Server Settings > Compute + Storage in the Azure portal.

By following these steps, you should be able to verify why the extra charge appeared and take action to revert to your previous billing configuration.
