Hi everone, I created a permissionlevel 'edit without delete'. I also created several sharepoint groups and assigned 'edit without delete' to them. If a member of one of these groups trys to share a folder the only option available is 'view'. Is there a way to allow the user to share with 'edit without delete' permission level? The user is not owner, can't use 'manage access' - 'advanced settings' - 'grant permissions'. Second question: Why can't users with 'edit without delete' permission share a file or folder without the site owner's acceptance? The share option says site owner, members and users with edit permission. it doesn't require a delete permission. Any help is very much appreciated.

I understand the limitations as for the first part of my questions. Thanks again for your detailed explanation.

I just wonder about sharepoints behaviour in regard to the second question. Please comment on these observations:

My understanding of "Share" is to have the possibility to invite people to view/edit a file or contents of a folder even if they are NOT members of any sharepoint group within my sharepoint.

This behaviour makes the difference between 'share' and 'grant access'.

The group Member has edit-without-delete permission. Now a user from within this group shared a file with a user being a member of another sharepoint group within the sharepoint. Not quite as expected (a member did the share) the owner got an email requesting access.

The same member invited an user, who is not member of any of the sharepoint groups but member of our tenant, to share a file. The email was not even sent. There was no entry in the outlook sent-folder of the inviting person. The owner never got a request. How can this be?

I wasn't able to reproduce your situation, make sure you share the same steps as well as the same permissions (e.g. both can edit, etc.). Try a different library, does the same thing happen?

thanks for trying to reproduce the problem. Since Friday the behavior of our sharepoint changed without us having changed anything,

As I've already mentioned several times our sharepoint users are grouped within sharepointgroups according to the CRM business units. The sharepoint groups all have the permission 'edit without delete'.

Till Friday a user with 'edit without delete' permission was only able to share with 'view' permission. We discussed this and I could understand the reasons.

Right now if the user clicks on share the only option to choose is edit. No choice given to change this to 'view'.

Sorry about the german text. I changed to preferred Language "English" within the account settings but this was ignored by sharepoint. No other option availble. This is a desaster.

This could be due to the following reasons:

Changes in Site Collection Features: If the Limited-access user permission lockdown mode is activated, it may restrict the sharing options available to users. You can check this by going to Site administration > Site settings and reviewing the Site collection features.

Sharing Settings: The sharing settings for your site or organization may have been modified. If sharing options are restricted by your organization's administrators, users may not see the expected options.

Specific File Types: Certain file types, such as .aspx pages, may have specific sharing restrictions that could affect the available options.

No changes concerning the sharing behaviour have been made by the sharepoint administrator since last Friday.

The settings of crm as well as crmtest sharepoint teamsite are identical and look like this:

Nevertheless the only option a user (with edit-without-delete permission) is to share with edit permission (incl. delete permission which user himself doesn't have).(see my last comment)

The limited-access user permission lockdown mode is NOT activated.
