Microsoft Purview Managing Business Glossary

Hello,

I have two questions related with the new Business Glossary in the new Microsoft Purview Portal:

1.In the old portal it was possible to create a glossary of Business terms using a template to create a group of terms at the same time. In the new portal I can't see the option, is it not possible to do this using the new feature?

2.I'm trying to assign a Business term to a column of an Asset (table) which is assigned to a Data Product, but it does not give me the option:

The bussiness term: User's image

The data product (Employee) related with the business glossary (EmployeeShortName) and the asset (DIM_EMPLOYEE):

Trying to edit the asset and assign the business term to a column (but it not appears):

Why can't I relate the business glossary to a column of a data asset (all objects are published in the data catalog and I have all possible roles in the governance domain)?

Hi,

I checked all the permissions and I have the following roles assigned:

-Setting Purview roles: Data Governance admin, Data Source Administrators and Purview administrator

-DataCatalog roles: Data Governance Administrators, Governance domain creator, Data health owner and Data health reader

-At DataMap-Collection level: Domain admin, Collection administrator, Data Source Admin, Data Curator, Privacy Curator, Privacy readers and Data reader

-At Domain level: Governance domain owner, Governance domain reader, Data steward, Data product owner, Data catalog reader, Data quality stewards, Data quality reader, Data quality metadata reader, Data profile steward and Data profile reader

Do you think is a matter or permissions (i have practically all the existing roles)? The only roles not assigned to me are: Workflow admin, Privacy readers and Insight readers (at Datamap-collection level)...

Regarding the visibility, what are the visibility settings to be configured? I only know that I can see the term in the glossary and this is published:

And linked with an existing published DataProduct:

and related with the asset table desired to add the glossary:

Any other idea?

You might also want to check if there are any dependencies or constraints on the asset that could prevent the assignment of business terms.

Refreshing the Portal: As simple as it sounds, logging out and back in or refreshing the portal can sometimes resolve temporary glitches that might affect functionality.

@phemanth we are also experiencing similar issues to the second one mentioned above re: assigning a data asset to a glossary term. Like David, I have most of the permissions, so I don't think it has to do with permissions.

asset and term relationship. Under the appropriate governance domain, data estate mapping, I have selected a mapping to the appropriate collection that holds the data asset. Is this what you mean? If not, kindly provide more details on how to do this.

Indeed, the Microsoft Purview updates mention using third-party tools like Macula Purview Automate for bulk uploading glossary terms. This can be a helpful workaround until Microsoft potentially reintroduces the bulk upload feature directly in Purview.

It suggests using a 3rd party software. Macula Purview Automate (maculasys.com)

The instructions are straight forward, and it worked for us. The only issue we had was that the template wasn't updated, and additional fields were required. But it will give an error message which will guide you.
