We have a new IT admin who is learning Teams on the job. He currently makes himself and his manager owners to every Team and Channel and doesn't relegate any admin power downward. I have a Team and a channel and can not create tabs for projects or add members etc...

is there a way he can give me limited admin to do just these tasks while he keeps the keys to the castle?

    Hi JohnAnetrella-0155,

The owner can give the member permissions as below.

Best practice is to setup or plan group governance. One thing he can do right away is restricting the creation of teams and only allowing certain / vetted individuals, then setting up Group Expiration policy (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/users-groups-roles/groups-lifecycle).

For your question, which I would think will create more work for him (therefore delaying the whole learning process he has to take).
He can setup channel or group moderation and set individual group settings...

    Hi JohnAnetrella-0155,

There are two ways to assign admin roles. One is to the user's details and Manage roles to assign a role to the user. Another is to Roles and select the role, and then add multiple users to it. For more details, you can refer to: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/admin/add-users/assign-admin-roles?view=o365-worldwide.

If the user wants to have owner role of some team, the team owner can assign the owner role as the steps below:

    • In Teams, select the team name and click More options > Manage team.
    • In the Members tab, choose the owner role for you.

For more details, you can refer to this link: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/assign-roles-permissions#assign-a-user-role.

    But the question remains....
Can an Admin give someone the ability to create channels and tabs and nothing else?
I understand Teams, and I'm a tech, I just wanted to know if permissions are this Granular (group or individual)
