How to remove Copilot from Word

Hello,

I would like to remove Copilot and Copilot's prompts from Word. I have adjusted the privacy settings, to prevent Copilot from having access to my documents. However, the annoying Copilot ribbon still provides a prompt and follows my efforts down the page. I find using AI for writing deplorable. Word processors are tools to help record your thoughts, AI is creating thoughts for you. I will keep using my own brain, for as long as it keeps working.

How can I remove Copilot from Word?

Thank you,

Nicole

    Hi,

This is officially feature, there is no way to disable or turn off it. You can only revert to an earlier version of Office without the feature:

I also suggest you give feedback about this behavior:

As of early last week, in Word for Windows, update version 2501 included a checkbox. Uncheck it to get CoPilot out of Word.

It is my understanding that this is also present, as of some time on January 24, for the Mac desktop Word application from Microsoft 365.

It is promised that it will be available for other desktop applications soon. I just checked and am not seeing them yet. Microsoft seems to be moving fast, though, to fix this mess.
