[Solved] Problem to open file Sharepoint on Office 365 on Windows 10 PC

Good morning, I am encountering an issue on a company PC used by one of our employees. When attempting to open a file via SharePoint, OneDrive synchronization, or using the "Open in app" option in the browser, the following error message always appears:

"This file can only be opened in a work location. Move it to an organization-approved location for work files."

I have tested this on other company PCs, and the file opens without any issues. Furthermore, the file can also be accessed without problems on a non-company PC.

Do you know if there is a way to resolve this specific issue on the affected company PC?

    Hi @Francesco Russo ,

Welcome to Q&A forum! Happy to assist you on this issue.

To help you do troubleshooting, I'd like to confirm information below:

    • Does issue happen to all files? Are the files saved in OneDrive for business or personal OneDrive?
    • Have you tried downloading a file to local place on your computer then open it? Does error persist?

Per my research, the error message that you mentioned may appear when WIP(Windows Information Protection) is enabled on the system. Are your files WIP protected? You may confirm with your IT and then remove the WIP to check the result.

Meanwhile, we searched a similar thread, hope it can give you some ideas: Windows Information Protection - OneDrive "this file can only be opened from a work location"-SOLVED - Microsoft Tech Community

I hope this information helps. Please do let us know if you have any further queries.

    Hi @Francesco Russo ,

Great to know that and thanks for sharing the update here.

    Current status:

I solved the problem, WIP (Windows information Protection) was configured on Intune, but it was not configured correctly and did not see the company SharePoint as a trusted location and after fixing the policy it was resolved.
