Office 2019 standard periodically loses license on terminal server 2019

Hi!

We've installed a Windows 2019 Standard Edition Remote Desktop Server and installed Office 2019 Standard Edition (MAK/VL Version - NOT O365!) on it. Everything works fine, but periodically Office says that it has lost its license. We've checked the installation and even re-installed twice using ODK, still the problem pops up. Any ideas what the source and/or solution of the problem might be?

Thanks for your help in advance!

Best Regards and Happy New Year!

Gerrit Deike

    Hey @Gerrit Deike

Is the license the same edition as the office on the server ?

Is it proper using MAK to activate Office for RDS server?

Here I quote from Licensing of Microsoft Desktop Application Software for use with Windows Server Remote Desktop Services,
    might give you some inspiration.

"Microsoft licenses its traditional desktop applications such as Office Professional Plus on a per-device basis.
Per-device licensing means a customer must obtain a license for each desktop on or from which the product
    is used or accessed."

"Use of Microsoft desktop applications in a Remote Desktop Services environment requires that the suite/edition,
components, language, and version of the license acquired for the desktops from which the desktop application is remotely
accessed matches that of the copy of the application being accessed.

    For example:
    • Product: Microsoft Office Standard 2019 and Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2019 are different products.

A desktop licensed for Office Standard 2019 may not remotely access and use Office Professional Plus 2019.

    • Components: A license for a suite (for example, a Microsoft Office suite) for the accessing desktop must
have the same components as the copy of the Microsoft Office suite being remotely accessed.

    • Version: Microsoft Office 2019 and Microsoft Office 2016 are different versions.

You may not remotely access the Microsoft Office 2019 from a desktop that’s licensed for Microsoft Office 2016.

Also note legal licensing questions are better directed towards your reseller's trained licensing specialist or ask microsoft directly.

    or email volume licensing service.

    Hello Karlie,

yes, the MAK-Key is correct. We've checked three time. ;) The Key is from the VLSC and we installed using the ODK. The problem isn't that Office isn't licensed. It is that sporadically the license is lost. The weird thing is that the next day it might be back...

    Hi Karlie,

that was true for Office 2010, but we have several customers who have Office 2019 aktivated with MAK on TS. The only difference is that those customers are using the Pro Plus edition, not Standard. But in this MS article there is no mention that MAK doesn't work: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/deployoffice/office2019/deploy

I'm afraid not. :( Since I've changed the company I work for I won't be following up on this problem anymore either. Sorry!
