User Not Found in Microsoft Teams Search

2025-02-12T16:16:36.7433333+00:00

There is a user who does not appear in search results on Microsoft Teams. The problem's duration is unclear, but users who have previously chatted with this individual can still do so. The affected user has a Business Standard license.

Attempts to search using both the web client and the desktop application yielded the same results. The search by name feature was activated in the Teams administrative panel, but no changes have been observed yet (5 hours have elapsed since the adjustment).

Additional options for troubleshooting this issue have not been found.

Hi @Manuele Orlandi - Club del Sole IT

According to your case description, users cannot be searched in Microsoft Teams.

This may be due to several reasons:

    • Special characters: If the user's name contains special characters (such as brackets), Teams may not handle these characters correctly, which affects the search results.
    • External users: If the user you are trying to search for is an external user (not in your organization), you may need to ensure that external access permissions are set correctly.
    • Directory synchronization: User information may not be correctly synchronized to the directory, resulting in the user not being searched.

If the user you are trying to search for is an external user, please refer to External federated contacts don't appear in Teams search to resolve this issue.

If you have already turned on Search by name in the Teams Admin Center, this change may take several hours to take effect. For more information, please refer to Limit who users can see when searching the directory in Teams.

It mentions: When Scope directory search using an Exchange address book policy is turned on, most accounts that are marked as hidden in Exchange don't show up in Teams searches.

If it still doesn't work, you can try clearing the cache, or contact online support for help. Thank you for your understanding and support.
