IISの「32bitアプリケーションの有効化」の設定について

OSバージョンアップ（Windows Server2012→2016）に伴って本番障害が発生しており、至急調査をお願いしたいです。
OSバージョンアップの中で、IISのバージョンアップ（8.0→10.0）も実施しています。
バージョンアップ前は、IISアプリケーション設定の「32bitアプリケーションの有効化」がFALSEで稼働していたアプリケーションが、バージョンアップ後は、FALSEで稼働せず、TRUEにすると稼働することが分かりました。
IISのバージョンアップに伴い、挙動が変わったものと推測していますが、「32bitアプリケーションの有効化」に関する仕様をご教示いただきたいです。
その他調査に必要な情報があれば提示しますので、ご教示ください。
