Hello BDub69,
Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.
We cannot obtain effctive information from the error message. When you get a black screen that never responds, is it normal to try to connect through other means? I suggest that you first try turning off network-level authentication on the server side and see if the problem persists.
Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try in same time:
- Check if the Remote Desktop service is running on the server. You can do this by opening the Services app and looking for the "Remote Desktop Services" service. If it's not running, start it.
- Check if the server's firewall is blocking Remote Desktop connections. You can temporarily disable the firewall to see if that's the issue. If it is, you can create a firewall rule to allow Remote Desktop connections.
- Check if the server is configured to allow Remote Desktop connections. You can do this by right-clicking on "This PC" and selecting "Properties". Then, click on "Remote settings" and make sure that "Allow remote connections to this computer" is selected.
- Check if the server's network settings are correct. Make sure that the server has a valid IP address and that it's on the same network as the computer you're trying to connect from.
I hope the information above is helpful.
If you have any question or concern, please feel free to let us know.
