Cannot add Windows Server Backup feature on Server 2022.

Hello,

I have problemens with installing Windows Server Backup on Server 2022. I tried all things from this forum post: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/windows-server-for-it-pro/unable-to-install-windows-server-backup-on-windows-2019/td-p/2435232

Unfortunately, that is not the way it works. You need to repair the online image on your existing server. Using your virtual machine, make sure the system is at the same build and has that feature enabled. Make a copy of that virtual server's WinSxS folder and have that as your source. I recommend a copy to ensure no permission issues exist. Try to repair it using:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:C:\WinSxS /LimitAccess

C:\WinSxS being that copy.

It will let you know if it is successful. If not, you will need to look at the DISM.log and CBS,logs to see what is missing from the source files. You may be determine what those files are and make a copy of those file available. From the existing log you provided, every entry that starts with "Exec: Not able to pre-stage package:" is missing from your current system. It also states that : Microsoft-Windows-Foundation-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.20348.1" is explicitly missing. Your virtual machine, if properly updated, should have a copy of that exact path and files. If it does not, this repair procedure will not work.

Another option is try to the repair from the Windows 2022 install media. However, if the missing files are from Windows updates and not the install media, this may also fail.

Dism /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth /Source:WIM:d:\sources\install.wim:2 /LimitAccess

D:\ being the location of the DVD or USB drive hosting the Windows 2022 install media.

Hello Techfreak_,

I have followed your advice from Dec., 31 2023:

Setup a virtual machine with Windows Server 2022 and update to Build 20348.2227 (same as repairing server)

Copied the WinSxS directory from rthe virtual machine to the repairing server on D:\WinSxS.

On the repairing server:
3.1) DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:D:\WinSxS /LimitAccess
Executed with success.
3.2) DISM /Online /Enable-Feature /FeatureName:WindowsServerBackup /Source:D:\WinSxS /LimitAccess
Executed with error: 0x800f081f, Source not found

Have I missed something?
