Mapping Network Drives with UPN

Hello,

I'm having a hell of a time with this one. All I want to do is figure out how to be able to map network drives with UPN(email address) instead of using domain\user. The need for this is to allow Azure joined machines to automatically map drives. I have scoured the internet and found that no one else has this issue. Is this DNS related? Please if anyone could point me in the right direction, I would be grateful.
