About a month ago my streaming of files from pc to tv abruptly began stopping at the two minute mark.

This is consistent. Is a Windows 10 update causing the stream to be aborted? I've not had this problem before. Wifi signal was always adequate from my modem. TV is Samsung Q60, which is set up to recognize the pc and its main folders (in this case, the C drive "Video" folder). Message is "Please check network". I don't seem to have a problem streaming Prime or using internet on the tv so it seems to be related to file streaming rather than simple wifi connection.

Fortunately, I did find a solution. I was surprised that I also did not find anything in the way of similar experience among the many tech problems people have because people with this problem must now number it the (tens of?) thousands. On another forum, however, a smart/pragmatic commenter wondered why I didn't just install a different server. Apparently the Windows server is a component of WMP, which Microsoft lost interest in quite some time ago. The software is simply outdated, so it's likely an OS update superceded its compatibility. That's as far as I went in tracking it down - what's the point of going further if you simply know it's not going to work any longer?

Painfullly comic how you went through all the pointless agony that I did trying to test out different theories.

So I installed Serviio on the PC and linked my video folder to it. My tv picked it up and it works like a charm. I just ignore the PC icon on the TV source selector and click on Serviio. From there it works the same as the PC server did by working your way through the folder selections to the folder you want.

Let me know how you get on.

Hi Grisbo - Wow! thank you! That works! I can't tell you how pleased, relieved and grateful I am. I've been going out of my mind, particularly over the last few weeks, as everything I tried to solve this problem got me literally nowhere.

One thing I tried - amongst many! - was reinstalling WMP, but I thought I was being dumb because I couldn't believe that server functionality would be connected to legacy software that doesn't even seem to be an official part of windows anymore. But maybe I wasn't being so dumb after all!

Honestly, you've been a lifesaver for me. For numerous reasons, it's essential that I can access files from my PC on my TV, and over this last few days I've even been considering buying a new PC, that's how desperate I've been to solve this problem. So you've saved me a lot of time, frustration and potentially money, too.

    Honestly, I can't thank you enough. I'm very grateful. You're a star!

Yeah, I don't know how many hours I invested in this issue before this simple solution was suggested. I can't believe complaints about this aren't popping up all over the forums, given that Windows instructs us to share files over our networks using their protocol that now doesn't work! Glad you found relief.
