Verify domain name for tenant directory

Hi I have an Azure directory for which I want to add a domain name. I've added the TXT record to my DNS on Godaddy and have waited over 72 hours. But when I click verify I always keep getting the message
Unable to verify domain name. Ensure you have added the record above at the registrar for 'thedomainname.com', and try again in a little while.

It's a recently purchased domain name so I don't believe anybody else has assigned it to another directory and I get know messages in Azure to that effect. I've checked that my DNS record is correct and I've copy pasted all of the values and ensured that the TXT record value you added is exactly as provided by Azure. I've checked with https://digwebinterface.com/ and the TXT entry seems to have propagated to most nameservers. I can also see the TXT value running nslookup -q=TXT domainname.com. I don't have any unmanaged PowerBI tenants or any other unmanaged tenants.

As far as I can tell I'm doing everything correctly but it just won't verify.

I understand that you have purchased a new domain from Godaddy and you are trying to verify the new custom domain in Microsoft Entra ID by adding the TXT record shown in Microsoft Entra ID in the Registrar site under DNS record where you have purchased the domain.

After adding the correct TXT record in the Registrar site under DNS record, when you are trying to verify the domain in Microsoft Entra ID, you are getting the error message as "Unable to verify domain name. Ensure you have added the record above at the registrar for 'thedomainname.com', and try again in a little while".

Please note that below are the common domain verification issues.

Common verification issues

If you can't verify a custom domain name, try the following suggestions:

Wait at least an hour and try again. DNS records must propagate before you can verify the domain. This process can take an hour or more.

Make sure the DNS record is correct. Go back to the domain name registrar site. Make sure the entry is there, and that it matches the DNS entry information provided in the Microsoft Entra admin center.

If you can't update the record on the registrar site, share the entry with someone who has permissions to add the entry and verify it's correct.

Make sure the domain name isn't already in use in another directory. A domain name can only be verified in one directory. If your domain name is currently verified in another directory, it can't also be verified in the new directory. To fix this duplication problem, you must delete the domain name from the old directory. For more information about deleting domain names, see Manage custom domain names.

Make sure you don't have any unmanaged Power BI tenants. If your users have activated Power BI through self-service sign-up and created an unmanaged tenant for your organization, you must take over management as an internal or external admin, using PowerShell. For more information, see Take over an unmanaged directory.

Since you have mentioned that you have already checked the above mentioned 4 common Domain verification issues, please try the below steps and let me know the behavior.

1.Delete the newly purchased domain which you are trying to verify in the Microsoft Entra ID by selecting the domain and click Delete. Please refer to the below Screenshot for your reference.

2.Delete the TXT Record in the Domain name Registrar site under DNS Records.

After performing the above mentioned steps, please make sure the domain is deleted from Microsoft Entra ID and please try again to add the custom domain which you have purchased and then add the newly created TXT record by copying the values from Microsoft Entra ID and pasting it in the Domain name Registrar site in TXT record under DNS records.

Thanks I had also deleted the domain name Azure and also in GoDaddy and set the TXT again and it still didn't work.
But I did it once again just to be sure, so this is the 3rd time here are the screenshots below.

Checking with https://digwebinterface.com/

Over an hour later when trying to verify. It still won't verify.

Based on the Screenshot which you have attached, I can see that there are 3 TXT records that have been added for the custom domain ****.com

Please note that if this custom domain ****.com is already verified in some other tenant, in this scenario you will have to first remove the domain from the other tenant and only then you will be able to add and verify the custom domain ****.com in new tenant.

As we have discussed over the call, we came to the conclusion that the custom domain ****.com is already been verified in another tenant.

As I have informed you before, if this custom domain ****.com is already verified in some other tenant, in this scenario you will have to first remove the domain from the other tenant and only then you will be able to add and verify the custom domain ****.com in new tenant.

Since you are not aware of that another tenant and you don't have any contact persons of that another tenant and also you are not part of that another tenant where this custom domain ****.com is already been verified, there are no options to sign in to that another tenant to delete the custom domain ******.com, so you have deleted this custom domain ****.com from your tenant.

Hi Jonathan Duncan

Please check the TXT record field in Azure DNS zone. What is the value you use there for TXT name? If it is used as domain as the TXT name value, change it to “@” and see if it helps!

I don't have an Azure DNS zone setup up. My registrar Godaddy. Do I need to set up something in Azure DNS too?

I'm already using @ for the name as per the Azure TXT instructions.
