Purchasing a EntraID P1 licence

Question

I am wanting to purchase a Entra ID P1 licence. I am a global administrator of an Azure tenant and want to purchase a P1 licence that I can apply to a user in my default directly. I do not have a M365 subscription and I do not want one!.

The documentation (and co-pilot) states that I should be able to do this without a M365 subscription but the Azure portal displays a message that states that I need to do it in the M365 admin portal.

This is an extremely frustrating experience. Why is this so difficult?

This is because User and group license assignments are managed through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center. For more information on how to assign or unassign licenses to users and groups, see this article: - Assign or unassign licenses for users in the Microsoft 365 admin center

Thanks for your question and sorry for the confusion. Will try to clarify.

Microsoft Entra ID P1 is available as a standalone product. Even without an M365 subscription, you can access the Microsoft 365 admin center. To access go toadmin.microsoft.com in your web browser.

Type of licenses

To get your license try the Entra licensing suite via: https://portal.azure.com/#view/Microsoft_AAD_IAM/LicensesMenuBlade/~/LicensedFeaturesState
