Failure to clone app service

Good day team

We are struggling to clone our app service. Everytime we try clone, we get the error message below:

We thought getting global admin rights would solve the issue but it does. May you please assist us.

Cloning "giz-as-ai-repo-prod" failed
Failed to clone "giz-as-ai-repo-prod":
The subscription 'ce108db1-7a5f-4fbf-b399-9ea6c44bf16e' is not allowed to create or update the serverfarm.

Hi Nelani Dube,

looks like u are encountering a permissions issue when trying to clone your App Service "giz-as-ai-repo-prod". That error indicates urs subscription does not have an rights to create or update the server farm (App Service Plan).

I would suggest urs user account lacks sufficient permissions on the App Service Plan, or the target subscription has restrictions on creating new resources or there may be a quota limitation in the target subscription. For fix it verify and assign proper permissions like make sure your account has Contributor or Owner role on both source App Service and target subscription/resource group.

Probably for App Service Plan operations, you may need Web Plan Contributor role. Check Subscription Restrictions and verify the target subscription allows creating new App Service Plans. and if there are Azure Policy restrictions blocking creation.

But u can of coz use some others steps like clone to an existing App Service Plan instead of creating a new one. Export the ARM template and deploy manually.

Instead of creating a new App Service Plan during cloning precreate an App Service Plan in your target location and select this existing plan during the clone operation App Service Plan Overview

Export ARM template from your source App Service, modify parameters as needed, deploy to target location Export template from resource group Deploy ARM templates .

If u would like i can give u an PS aka PowerShell or azure cli commands.
