Request failed with status code 400 in "Get Started with Power Apps" exercise

Request failed with status code 400 in Power Apps with CoffeMachines table exercise in "Get Started with Power Apps". The error happens upon clicking on the Create App action. The issue has to do with the xlsx file from Microsoft

The lesson plan for "Get started with Power Apps" doesn't align with this answer. I was able to add the information this way, however, My data source on the left shows, but now it is saying "Add an item from the insert pane or connect to data". So... now what?

Thank you for reaching out on the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Please go to the Create tab and select Blank canvas app, then choose the Tablet format. Once the app opens in Power Apps Studio, navigate to the Data section and click on Connect to data. From there, select OneDrive for Business as your data source. Locate and select the CoffeeMachineData.xlsx file that you've saved to your OneDrive.

After selecting the file, choose the CoffeeMachines table and connect it to your gallery. This will allow your gallery to display the data from the Excel file. Make sure that the Excel file is stored in your OneDrive for Business and that the data is formatted as a proper Excel table.

Unfortunately this workaround takes you completely out of the lesson plan for "Get Started with Power Apps" and therefore is not very helpful.

This answer does not help when trying to follow along with the lesson, for me I was ablet o create the app but got an error saying something like it was expecting a ')' in position 4, not quite sure. But when I tried to create the app again using the Machine table, like the lesson states, I only get 400 error now.

I am having the same issue, and the work around doesn't match the lesson plan. Are there any other directions to continue with the lesson plan?

So on Microsoft's crown jewel of Power Apps, the error persists for 6 months with no resolution or work-around that makes the tutorial function. Not a great advertisement for the product.

Error "Request failed with status code 400" is still there! But u can continue the lesson at "Your own Canvas App (without template"

This issue happens because you are re-using a file which has been linked to Power Apps before. Power Apps then adds a Power Apps ID column which interferes with subsequent uses.

The resolution is to either manually remove that column from your file, or to take a fresh copy from the source.

This has now been documented in the Create your first app in Power Apps learning page, but the note is a bit further up than the relevant step in the exercise!
