I cannot get USB RemoteFX USB device to show up on my Azure VM

I have a PCAN-USB (peak-systems CAN to USB converter) connected to my local PC. I am unable to get this device to show up on my azure VM. I have followed the instructions at -https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-desktop/redirection-configure-usb?tabs=intune&pivots=azure-virtual-desktop

The device shows up in "Other supported RemoteFX USB devices" in the Remote Desktop Connection editor. Further, I can successfully redirect the USB device when using a remote connection between two physical machines. But I cannot make the azure vm see the device.

I have also installed the device drivers on the azure vm - it did not change anything.

It seems to me the azure vm or virtual desktop is still blocking this forwarding somehow. Does anyone have any advice?
