Were there any changes made this year concerning cipher suites on smtp-hve.office365.com and mail.protection.outlook.com. It seems to have just stopped working in some cases when using a multifunction device for scanning to email.

According to my research, there is an official article that mentions possible issue occurs when setting up multifunction printer to send email, it also lists relative causes, you could check whether your scenario is mentioned there. Fix issues with printers, scanners, and LOB apps that send email using Microsoft 365 - Exchange | Microsoft Learn
