Hello @Johann Hornigold
Thank you for reaching out, and I'm truly sorry to hear that you're experiencing activation issues with Microsoft Office. I understand how frustrating this can be, and I'm here to help guide you through a solution.
Based on the error messages you've encountered (such as "No network connection", "9BXF9 – Unexpected error", or prompts asking for a product key), the issue is likely related to residual sign-in data, corrupted activation files, or network misconfiguration.
Please follow the steps below to help resolve the issue:
Step 1: Sign Out and Clear Cached Data
Residual sign-in data or cached information can cause activation issues. Let's start by clearing this data:
- Close all Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Open Task Manager (press Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and end any processes related to:
- OneAuth
- OfficeClickToRun
- Microsoft Teams (if running)
- Open File Explorer and do the following:
- Enable Hidden Items: Click the View tab and check the box for Hidden items in the Show/hide group.
- Manually Type the Folder Paths:
- Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog box.
- Type or paste the following path and press Enter: %localappdata%\Microsoft\IdentityCache
If the folder opens, delete all files inside. Repeat the same for the path: %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneAuth
- Remove Credentials:
- Open Credential Manager (search in Start menu).
- Go to Windows Credentials and remove any credentials related to:
Step 2: Reset Network Settings
If you're encountering network-related errors (e.g., "No network connection" or error code 9BXF9 – code 1813), resetting network settings may help:
- Open Command Prompt as Administrator (right-click and select Run as Administrator).
- Run the following commands, pressing Enter after each:
ipconfig /flushdns
netsh int ip reset
netsh winsock reset
- Restart your computer to apply the changes.
Step 3: Reset Internet Explorer Settings
If the issue persists, resetting Internet Explorer settings may also help:
- Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog box.
- Type the following command and press Enter:
RUNDLL32.exe InetCpl.cpl, ResetIEtoDefaults
- This will open a Reset Internet Explorer Settings window. Click Reset and follow the on-screen instructions.
Step 4: Sign In and Activate Office
- After completing the previous steps, open any Office application (e.g., Word or Excel).
- Sign in with your Microsoft 365 account. You should no longer be prompted for a product key.
- If prompted for a product key despite using a Microsoft 365 subscription, click I don’t have a product key and follow the on-screen instructions to sign in.
Step 5: Check Date/Time and Update Windows (Optional)
- Ensure your system’s date and time are set correctly. Incorrect settings can interfere with activation.
- Go to Settings > Windows Update, and check for any pending updates. Install all available updates to ensure your system is fully up to date.
After completing these steps, open any Office app (e.g., Word or Excel), sign in with your Microsoft 365 account, and check if the license is applied successfully.
If the issue continues after completing the steps above, please let me know, and I’ll be happy to assist you further.
